Chaos vs. Order

Chaos is the enemy of a free society. This should not be surprising. God has ordained that we should be free but the enemy of God desires to sow disorder into creation. Creativity is about bringing order out of chaos:

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.  (Genesis 1:1-3)

Random acts of violence are examples of chaos and not order. They are not creative acts but destructive acts. Acts of terrorism are committed to foster chaos and confusion. Their goal is to disrupt society, not advance it.

How do we change society when there are injustices? In order to advance society we must begin by supporting what is orderly and decent in society. The so-called “occupy” movement relies on chaos to bring about order, yet chaos and order are diametrically opposed. What started out as a revolution in France degenerated into chaos. When there are no rules the “rule of law” is a casualty.

Fortunately, up until this point the way we have effected changes in the American society is through free elections. However, chaos has its eye on those elections as it has its eye on our legal, moral, educational institutions and structures. What is holding chaos back? Law enforcement alone cannot hold it back. Societal norms can no longer prevent it from breaking out. On the last day of the Constitutional Convention Benjamin Franklin made these remarks:

In these sentiments, Sir, I agree to this Constitution with all its faults, if they are such; because I think a general Government necessary for us, and there is no form of Government but what may be a blessing to the people if well administered, and believe farther that this is likely to be well administered for a course of years, and can only end in Despotism, as other forms have done before it, when the people shall become so corrupted as to need despotic Government, being incapable of any other.

We need the Holy Spirit of God to prevent chaos. What would happen if God removed His Spirit?

And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.

And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.  (Revelation 6:7-8)

Genuine revival is never optional for a people. Without it chaos will have its way.
