An Enlistment of the Spirit

When in the course of human events,

It wasn’t just dollars and cents.

But decrees which tyranny imposed

whose threats the Spirit had disclosed.

Is the year – seventeen seventy-six

when lives and fortunes were in the mix?

No, the year is twenty twelve

into this day we dare to delve.

Awakening from a winter’s night

seeing so little truth in sight

a people shout: “Let freedom ring.”

seeking the hope whose liberties bring.

Tyranny had long been ignored.

Past mistakes had been encored.

Yet an awakening has occurred.

The corporate body has been stirred.

Who is pointing out the way?

Was it the politician’s sway?

No. Our government is broken

whose orchestration is not spoken.

Our churches have been silent too

while all around a tyranny grew.

We give our praise to the Lord above

whose Spirit descended like a dove

and carried us up on eagles’ wings

that we might see and learn new things.

Some were new and some were old.

Some were hidden and some foretold.

Stand up now. Gird up your loins.

A mighty army a soldier joins,

Growing in righteousness and truth,

becoming the army of our youth.
